REDEEMED FROM AN AIMLESS LIFE
… you were not redeemed with
corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct
received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of
Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot. 1 Peter
1:18-19
It is not unusual for a child of God
to say, “I would give anything to have the life I had immediately after I
was saved. Life just does not have the meaning now that it had then.” These
words are spoken by many of God’s children who have not grown in their
Christian lives and are not being filled with the Holy Spirit.
Peter says that we have been redeemed from an aimless life which is is not
for just a few months but for eternity. When we were redeemed with the
precious blood of Jesus, we received everything we needed to live our lives
in the redeemed state—and there is nothing aimless about that.
The Christian who feels that his life is aimless even though he is doing his
best for Jesus has received and believed wrong directions for living the
Christian life. He is not familiar with what Jesus said as He instituted the
Lord’s Supper. Concerning His blood, He said, “This is my blood of the New
Covenant.”
The New Covenant has changed everything for the child of God. Living
according to the New Covenant, we are free from the law and the power of
sin. Our approach to living the Christian life is no longer, “If God says
it, I will do it.” It is living out our spiritual crucifixion, burial and
resurrection. It is being filled by the Holy Spirit and permitting God to
lead us. It is living without any initiation on our part. It is abiding in
Jesus and bearing fruit for God.
We live out the New Covenant as we live out our spiritual crucifixion,
burial and resurrection.
