POSSESSING OUR POSSESSIONS
"But on Mount Zion there
shall be deliverance, And there shall be holiness; The house of Jacob
shall possess their possessions." Obadiah 1:17
Obadiah prophesied against Edom, a
nation made up of the descendants of Esau. The Edomites had participated in
the destruction of the land of the Jews. Obadiah prophesied that the time
would come when the Israelites would reclaim their lands. They would possess
their possessions.
What about the Jews of today? In Romans 2:28-29 Paul writes, “For he is not
a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision that which is outward in the
flesh; but he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the
heart, in the Spirit, not in the letter; whose praise is not from men but
from God.” According to this verse, all who have received Jesus as Lord and
Savior are now the real Jews.
Sadly, the real Jews—Christians—of today for the most part do not possess
some of their most precious possessions, which are clearly described in The
New Testament.
Spiritual Jews possess a new covenant. Those who experience this new
covenant will possess the filling of the Holy Spirit and freedom from having
to serve God in their own strength and wisdom. They will experience being
seated with Christ in the heavenlies. They will have the abundant life that
Jesus promised. They will bring glory to God.
These are some of the possessions that God wants us to possess by
experiencing our spiritual crucifixion, burial and resurrection. We will
never possess them all in this life, but we can continue throughout this
life to possess more of our possessions.
