LET US PURSUE THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE
LORD
Let us pursue the knowledge
of the Lord. Hosea 6:3
Hosea’s plea to Israel is as up to
date for present day Christians as it was for the Israelites centuries ago.
There is great need for us to grow in the knowledge of the Lord.
In Colossians 1:10, Paul prays for his readers to increase in the knowledge
of God. Paul writes in 1 Timothy 2:4, “[God] desires all men to be saved and
to come to the knowledge of the truth.”
Jesus says of the Holy Spirit in John 16:13, “He will guide you into all
truth.” In John 16:15, Jesus says, “All things that the Father has are Mine.
Therefore I said that He (the Holy Spirit) will take of Mine and declare it
to you.”
Unfortunately, some of God’s children seem to have little or no interest in
having a growing knowledge about the Father and the Son or of any facets of
the Christian life. They are like the farmer who has prepared the soil and
planted the seed but has no interest in the rain. The soil has been prepared
and the seed is sown in the believer because the Holy Spirit lives in his
heart.
A believer receiving the filling of the Holy Spirit by living out his union
with Christ can be compared to the farmer receiving the necessary rain.
Among many other things, the Holy Spirit will give the believer a passion to
grow in the Christian life.
The Holy Spirit will give the Spirit-filled believer new revelations of
scriptural truths. Among those new revelations will be truths about the
Father and the Son. The result will be the spiritual growth that the
Spirit-filled believer desires.
