WE HAVE THE MIND OF CHRIST

But we have the mind of Christ. 1 Corinthians 2:16

We must interpret this verse in the light of its larger context, which presents the three types of men: the natural man, the carnal man and the spiritual man.

The natural man is the person who has never received Jesus into his life. The carnal man is the one who has received Jesus into his life but is not receiving the filling of the Holy Spirit. The spiritual man is the one who has received Jesus into his life and who continues to receive the filling of the Holy Spirit by continuing to live out his union with Christ.

It is the spiritual man who has the mind of Christ.

Three other verses in the larger context help us understand how we can have the mind of Christ.

But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.” But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. 1 Corinthians 2:9-11

The Spirit of God searches the deep things of God and reveals them to Spirit-filled believers. Because of these revelations Paul can say, “We have the mind of Christ.”

When we continue to live out our union with Christ, we will continue to receive the revelations of the things that God has prepared for us. The result is a growing faith, a victorious life and an ongoing knowledge of what He wants to do next through us.
