FEAR NOT THE
CRITICS OF THE GOSPEL
Then He brought him
outside and said, “Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you
are able to number them.” And He said to him, “So shall your descendants
be.” And he believed in the Lord, and He accounted it to him for
righteousness. Genesis 15:5-6
God told Abraham that his
descendants would be as the stars in heaven. In another verse, God told
Abraham that through him and his seed, he would bless every nation on earth.
In another verse, God told Abraham’s grandson, Jacob, that his descendants
would be as the dust on the earth (Genesis 28:14).
Several the Book of Genesis records that God told Abraham that the spread of
the blessing would be through his seed. Galatians 3:16 records Paul’s
writing, “Now to Abraham and his Seed were the promises made.” He does not
say, ‘And to seeds,’ as of many, but as of one, ‘And to your Seed,’ who is
Christ.” The blessing God promised to Abraham was that through his seed,
Jesus, the Gospel would be preached to all the earth. The result would be
the salvation of the unsaved.
Romans 9:6-8 declares:
For they are not all
Israel who are of Israel, nor are they all children because they are the
seed of Abraham; but, “In Isaac your seed shall be called.” That is,
those who are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of
God; but the children of the promise are counted as the seed.
Through the spread of the
Gospel of Christ to the entire earth, unsaved people, both Jews and
Gentiles, have come to Christ for salvation and become the children of God.
When one lives out his union with Christ, God will have him involved in
spreading the message of salvation in one way or another. So he will always
be a part of the ministry that God promised Abraham—a ministry ordained by
God for glorious success.
Have no fear that the critics of Jesus and His gospel message will ever be
able to stop the spread of the message.
